"Roslyn: connections to The Way."

This article is one of a number of articles that will be published on caulbearer.org over the coming months. This particular article deals with the connections between The Way and the unusual temple generally referred to in modern times as Roslyn Chapel, which is located approximately 11 miles outside Edinburgh in Scotalnd.

"And so was it said later by Saul who is also now Paul, that the god of Israel raised Jesus from the dead. But he was removed from the tree and was yet alive, and lived until his eighty seventh year amongst the hills of the encircled star. And he was seen many days by them which came up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are his witnesses unto the people that he lives. Yet tell it not outside the ears of those who are of the Brotherhood, lest the believers in the New Order seek him again to kill him.

After he removed to the place of the hills within the circle which is in Gaul, Jesus did travel to the land where Pilate's mother was born and Pilate himself was conceived. There he did instruct the masons and showed them the signs that they would carve upon the stones of The House of The Covenant in that place; for here in later years would the forbearers of The Seventh hold seat."

The Book of Man Vol. Six, page 47

The text in the box to the left is an extract from The Book of Man, Volume 6, which recounts the events that happened after Jesus had survived the crucifixion and travelled to Gaul, or modern day France. He travelled throughout the region disguised as a servant of Joseph of Aramithaea, father to Mary, his second wife.

Joseph's name of Aramithaea is often disputed by scholars. The reason for this is that it was often thought that this name was supposed to relate to a place, but in fact it is a title or designation of his position within the Communities of The Way. The name of Aramithaea means "of the servants of the Lords," which is what he was in fact as he was a devoted servant and friend of Jesus; his own daughter being married to the Messiah, she being a sister-wife to Mary Magdalene and Sophia.

You may well ask what this has to do with Roslyn Chapel, a structure that was built approximately foureeen hundred years after Jesus lived? And why should he have given instructions to masons to build such a place so far removed from the lands generally associated with his life as it is generally known? Read on if you wish to learn more.

Roslyn Temple

Roslyn Chapel

Roslyn, as it is named these days, is a small village on the outskirts of Edinburgh in Scotland. The building known as Roslyn Chapel stands on the edge of the village and contains many unusual features, layouts and architectural styles that appear quite strange in the context of what would generally be regarded as Christian churches.

The building was founded in 1446 by Sir William St Clair, third and last St Clair Prince of Orkney. The St Clair family were a branch of The Way bloodlines which derived from the Scandanavian regions and therfore descended from the blood of Odin or Wodin/Wotan as he is sometimes referred to. The name St Clair derived from the words "Sancto Claro" meaning "Hallowed Light," a direct connection to the following of the path of enlightenment by the Way tradition.

The building itself is of particular interest as it contains many carvings and engravings that appear to spring from many and varied cultural influences, far removed from what orthodox Christian beliefs would have us accept. These traditions range from those of Scandanavia, the Middle East, the Americas and Mesopotamia along with those of what might be referred to as being of Celtic origin. In fact, if the design and hidden teachings carved within the building were to be examined more closely the whole edifice might appear to be completely heretical.

The building itself is oriented in an East-West direction in keeping with the traditions of The Way that looked forward to the coming of the Son of the Widow, who would travel from the East to the West and whose sign and birth would be marked by the planet Venus, also known as the Bright and Morning Star. The planet Venus can usually be seen either at evening time, after sunset, in the east or just before the sun rises in the morning, depending on the time of year.

So where did the designs come from and what is their purpose? To answer that question we have to look into the Book of Man, which is available in seven volumes from the caulbearer.org book store. The Way tradition and philosophy was and is deeply connected to the following of the teachings of the seven High Lords of the Veil, the Seven Signs, and is connected to the legacies of knowledge which were passed down through the geneations for the instruction of those who would still follow The Covenant. This covenant was and is an agreement made between men and women of reason and the first High Lord known as Dan and is the pivotal book of instruction in the teachings of The Way. The text of The Covenant is also available from this site and should be read to gain a sufficient knowledge of the point and purpose of The Way and its philosophy. Jesus himself was a follower of The Way and was the sixth of seven Kings by Right who would come to mankind to lead him away from the paths of darkness and destruction caused by following blind beliefs and unfounded dogmas. It was for this very reason that the temple at Roslyn was and is to this day known as the House of The Covenant as Jesus himself followed The Covenant and its teachings.

This point leads us to the meaning of the name of Roslyn itself. There have been many attempts to decode or identify the root meaning of this placename but in the inner teachings of The Way tradition it means, "Esoteric (hidden) knowledge handed down for the few," meaning the few of reason, logic, knowledge and truth who would be so instructed in the meanings of the hidden teachings; the very core of which would be carved in the walls and structure of Roslyn Temple itself.

Perhaps at this point I should explain the meaning of the word "Temple" as you may be a little confused as to why I should refer to a Chapel or Church as being a Temple, which name might be generally associated with places of worship of a non-Christian origin. The original and root meaning of the word Temple means a gathering together of persons of like mind and similar purpose: not a building or place of deity worship, which meaning it generally holds in modern parlance. Therefore a temple is a convocation of persons with the same purpose for the discussion and dissemination of information related to the common interest of all members of the group.

In later times when religious beliefs sprang up and took over the reigns of power, the word temple became associated with places of deity worship and therefore became removed from its original meaning. In the Middle Ages the fraternity known as the Knights Templar took their name from the hidden but root meaning of what a temple was in fact, a brotherhood of purpose with a common purpose.

The Opening of the Seventh Seal

Two angels carved in stone

Within the walls of Roslyn Temple itself are several carvings of angels: seven main ones in fact. The first six angels do not hold an open scroll, thereby denoting that they do not posess it. Only the seventh angel holds an unsealed scroll: he is the seventh angel, the holder of the key to the destiny of man upon the earth. You should remember that the title or name of "angel" originally meant "messenger" before it became synonymous with religiously based winged entities. if you look closely at the pictures of the other angels you will note that they also have the horns of the ram imagery within their form.

The Seventh Angel

And how do we know this? Why should this angel be any different to the others? Look at the picture on the right and you will see that the scroll he holds is open and he has what appears to be a cross on his head. But is it? No, it is in fact a key but it was so designed as to be hidden in plain sight of the eyes of man where no one would see it, except for those with eyes to see. In ancient times keys were shaped like this and the arms were the means of turning the lock. So here we see:

  • The seventh angel opens the Seventh Seal with a key that is contained in his mind, as signified by it being located on his head.
  • The seal is opened by one bearing the mark of the Ram, as symbolised by the horns of the Ram, one born under the astrological Sign of Aries. The wavy addition to the head of the angel may look like hair but is presented in this way to deflect the unknowing viewer from realising the hidden message.
  • Above his head you will see several carvings in the form of an X - representing the Runic symbol Gyfu, as prophesied as being one of the marks of prophecy by Joshua Ben Miriam in his last prophecy, which he passed to both Peter and John.

Note: This mark is often to be found in connection with the Way tradition, and in particular with the seven High Lords of the Veil. The symbol of a cross with arms that meet in the middle was adopted by many branches of the Military Orders of the Knights Templar and you can still see this symbol on the flags of many nations. The cross is often red in colour and is linked with the sign of Aries, which is astrologically ruled by Mars.

Hearne the Hunter

Hearne The Hunter

Yet another mysterious carving adorns the inner walls of Roslyn Temple. None other than Hearne the Hunter, the Caulbearer whose mission it is said, is to watch over the Seventh High Lord of the Veil when he would come upon the earth close to the ending of the days of man. In ancient folklore, legends abound about this enigmatic figure whom it was said was destined to pay the price of killing a white stag and wore its horns on his head. He represents the power of fire and is said to destroy by burning all who shall harm or stand in the way of the Son of the Widow and his purpose.

Hearne the Hunter is also often referred to by the name of Cernunnos.

The Hanged Man

The Hanged Man

This carving is linked to both Odin and The Tarot, which subject we shall return to later. It symbolises the hanging of Odin from the Yagdrassil tree, the legendary tree of Knowledge, upon which he saw the signs of divination as he hung upon it upside down for nine days. These symbols became known as Runes and are also incorporated within the Tarot.

Odin was the second High lord of the Veil and was the Lord who held Memory and Knowledge in high standing. He was the Lord who organised the Brotherhood of Nazarenes, the Brotherhood of Light into different groups so that the hallowed knowledge might not be lost, and therefore be passed down within the Seven Seals to the seventh and last High Lord of the Veil.

Note also the "S" shape of the rope to the sides of the angel, which subject we will read of later in another article.

The Ram in the thicket

The Ram in the thicket

Atop one of the pillars within the temple at Roslyn there is a carving of a ram. This ram depicts the story of the Ram in the Thicket (brush). The origins of this story lie in the Book of Man, where it was prophesied that the seventh and final Lamb would be prevented from advancing his purpose because of the blind stupidities of mankind at the time of his coming. This image of the Ram in the Thicket is linked to Marduk/Enoch and the lands of Mesopotamia, a location that is today generally associated with Iran and Iraq, the lands of Babylon and Ur and Nineveh. You should note the carving of a human face to the right of the picture, which represents Enoch/Marduk who ruled over the thirteen cities of Mesoptamia.

The prophecy contained within the Seventh Seal foretells that a bright light will rise up from the deserts at the Ending of Days, and this region should be watched closely in these times.

After many years Murdug was exalted to be a high god, and shall be by the foolish known also as Jupiter, which shines in the sky until he is reborn.

With eyes put out and raped and his bowels torn out, he did prophesy -- and so it was recorded. He cried out to those High Caulbearers that will follow him in The Purpose: to him who would be cast adrift; to him who would be crucified; to he of the almond eyes. And loudest did he cry out to he whose number will be ten, the last to come before men to bid them reason.

He cursed all the lands and people of Mesopotamia: that they shall always know only pain and defeat until that time; that nothing shall be seen of these goodly lands except the culverts within the sands of the desert; that they shall be ruled only by liars and cowards, and by men who proclaim honour and practice only shame. He cursed them that they shall know only wars and slaughter so that they might at that final ending gain reason and once again follow reason, and above all, the seventh High Caulbearer; to follow his reason and The Covenant as they had also learned to follow him in The Covenant; and in reason, in knowledge and in justice for all men. And so shall it be until the Ending of Days.

Those who had learned reason hid from the eyes of evil men all that he had gathered and all that he had commanded written, and departed that place so that it would not be again seen by the eyes of men until the coming of The Seventh.

Note: An archaelogical dig in Iraq uncoverd an ornate but crushed artefact based on the Ram in the Thicket theme, and this can be seen in the British Museum in London.

Moses with the Twelve Laws

Moses with the Twelve Laws

This picture represents Moses, the fourth High Lord of the Veil, the one who gave the Twelve Laws that had been handed down fron Dan, the first to come. He gave them to the desendants of Abraham, whose blood came from Mesopotamia, the lands of Marduk.

The blood of Abraham and Isaac promised to hold fast to The Covenant but they turned instead to the worship of deities and blind belief, a thing that this and the coming generations will pay for, as man still knows no reason.

You should note the peculiar "horns" on the head of Moses, representing the fact that he was born under the Sign of the Ram and was therefore the fourth Lamb of seven who would come to attempt to show mankind The Way.

You will also find this theme of horns on the head of Moses in a statue created by Michelangelo. The peculiarity of the addition of the horns was misinterpreted by later scholars as they did not know of the hidden path known as The Way. Once more the creators of such works placed their message "before the eyes of man where he would not see them."

You should also note the two fingered position of the right hand on the Moses statue (Michelangelo version), this representing the sign of a High Priest of The Way.

The Lion of Reason

The Lion of Reason

This carving depicts, amongst other things, the Lion of Reason, as written about in The Book of Man. Note the seven radials emanating fron the image, representing the Seventh to Come.

The carving of the lion also refers to the Tribe of Dan, the protectors of Jesus in his time. They were a special tribe who were later written out of the original Book of Man by the inventors of the One God religion.

The Ass of Unreason and the Lion of Reason

And it came to pass as they sat at the table, that the word of the Lords came unto the prophet that brought him back. And he cried unto the man of the new god that came from Judah, saying, "Thus saith the Lords, 'Forasmuch as thou hast disobeyed the mouth of the Lords, and hast not kept The Covenant, which the Lords commanded thee, and turned against us, but camest back, and hast eaten bread and drunk water in the place of the which you report thy god did say to thee, "Eat no bread, and drink no water," I of the Brotherhood say onto thee that thy carcass shall not come unto the sepulchre of thy fathers."

And it came to pass after he had eaten bread, and after he had drunk, that he saddled for him the ass, to wit, for the prophet whom he had brought back.

And when he was gone, a lion met him by the way, and slew him. And his carcass was cast in the way; and the ass stood by it. The lion also stood by the carcass: the ass that is unreason, and the lion of reason. And, behold, men passed by, and saw the carcass cast in the way, and the lion standing by the carcass: and they came and told it in the city where the old prophet dwelt.

The Book of Man Vol. III page 129

And of Dan he said, "'Dan is a lion's whelp. He shall leap from Bashan and he shall give all that he has onto The Seventh, whose number shall be ten; and upon the head of the assistance of Dan shall men survive. Blessed is Dan."

The Green Man

Roslyn contains a multitude of carvings of a face referred to as The Green Man. The particular carving below is a very detailed piece of masonry, executed with extreme skill and replete with detail in almost every way. You should note the following when studying the picture below. You should also note that many of the carvings contain more than one hidden message as they are a history of The Way and its teachings carved in stone and are designed as a teaching board for the few.

The Green Man.jpg

A spreading vine flows from the mouth and the top row of teeth shows a gap. In The Way the symbol of the vine represents growth, rebirth and renewal. You can often see carvings on buildings that look like four-leaved clovers. These in fact represent the hidden Gyfu symbol combined with the concepts of growth and life, as represneted by a foliar shape.

There are seven radials emerging from the figure, as mentioned previously in a former image. The small bottom radial is to be ignored as it was carved to distract the attention of those who might seek to decode the message hidden in the carving.

A hidden four-fingered hand (encicled) rests atop the carving, representing the hand of the Force of The All, the unseen but omnipresent presence of Life itself. This image of a four-fingered hand will be mentioned in further articles and can be found in many places where the Brotherhood of Light left their mark.

The particularly shaped eye is a mark that is known to the Botherhood, representing he who was prophesied who would be of a race of the almond eye, that of the fifth Lord of the Veil, more commonly known as Buddha, the Enlightened One. It is also a mark that appears on the Veil of the Son of the Widow.

In the Basement of Roslyn Temple

Guild Stone

The picture above is that of a stone slab relating to the Guild of Tarot Masters. The image carved upon it it derives from the 17th Century and the following words are engraved on the base upon which the carving sits: "King of Terrors. 17th C. Guild Stone."

It is generally presumed to be a stone dedicated to stonemasons but the imagery clearly relates to the passing of the prophecy to the boy child who would bring terror to those who follow blind belief in the unbelievable. The carving shows that the seals would be passed to him when he would yet be a child and that he would sit upon a fearsome throne. The child holds a book in his hand and another book stands open beneath him, signifying both his book of Life and Death respectively.

Note the two orbs under the feet of the person in the centre of the carving. The orb with the T signifies a Caulbearer and can be found on certain gravestones and buildings.

...And I shall command of you to write in a book: and the first Seal will be given unto you in your youth. You will be sent into a deep sleep and you will see visions, and in these visions will be given unto you The Seventh Seal, and you will understand it not for your protection; and none other will understand it.

And as age comes upon you, you will be exalted to high position, which will also be at The Ending of Days. And it shall be proclaimed with loud voices that you are the one worthy to write...

...And his book shall be opened and he shall teach you the ways that you will live from the land and from the sea. And he shall speak unto you in a loud voice -- and though he appears a lamb he shall have the heart of a lion. And the seven thunders, which are the voices of the Seven Signs, shall be heard from his mouth...

...And he who comes after me shall be sat upon a white throne, and his blood shall follow him in his purpose. And the Book of Life shall be opened. And another book shall be opened: and the book of his mind shall be opened and he shall speak, and the mystery of The Force of the Earth and of Life shall be no more. And you will understand and be at peace. And those who are not of good heart will find no place there before him, and shall be cast out and shall die. And whosoever is not written in his Book of Life shall perish before him and before me...
